Onguma The Fort
Etosha National Park
Onguma The Fort is Located on the 84,000 acre Onguma Reserve to the east of Namibia’s Etosha National Park. This impressive and unique property is perfect for those who like their creature comforts! There is an exotic feel to the lodge with its Moroccan theme and striking architecture. It is an ideal spot to enjoy Etosha. Although it is technically ‘outside’ of Etosha, there is still a good amount of game that frequents the waterhole in front of camp including warthog and springbok.
It is aptly named the Fort with its main turret and mini turrets which make up the 12 rooms at the lodge. They are well spaced ensuring privacy and seclusion. There is a complimentary golf buggy which is used to safely ferry guests home from dinner at the main dining room in at night. Each room (mini turret) has been delightfully and colourfully decorated in terracotta with lovely spots of bright colour throughout. As well as the super-sized beds, the room enjoys air-conditioning, a mini bar and a fireplace for those cold winter evenings.
Inside the main building, there is also an air-conditioned Fort Suite, affectionately referred to as the ‘Sultan Suite’ which is a great option for honeymooners. The main area continues with the Moroccan theme with heavy carved antique doors and lanterns, comfy sofas and brightly coloured cushions around the fireplace. The main attraction has to be the water feature which flows as little waterfalls through the courtyard and into the swimming pool with outside bar.
Activities at Onguma include morning and afternoon game drives in Etosha National Park. There are also night drives in the Onguma Reserve and for those wishing to stretch their legs, morning bush walks make a lovely alternative.
