SUJÁN The Serai
Jaisalmer
SUJÁN The Serai is one of Ampersand's Top Ten Hotels in Rajasthan.
Set on a one-hundred-acre private estate of indigenous desert scrub, The Serai is truly an oasis in the desert and draws inspiration from the royal caravan sites of Rajputana; blending the dash and vivacity of this Land of Kings. There is no better place from which to venture into the mystical environs of Jaisalmer to discover its fabled golden fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The stunning tented desert camp, set deep in the tranquil and mystical Thar, is an impossibly romantic set-up; 21 luxurious white canvas suites, raised on honeyed sandstone and each with a terrace lounge, sitting room with writing desk, air-conditioned bedroom and a stylish his and hers double sink bathroom. Six of these suites also have private walled in gardens with private plunge pools. The Royal Suite, the cream of the crop, boasts its own heated pool, spa, lounge and dining tent, and is set in an exclusive, walled off compound for the ultimate in privacy and exclusivity.
Dining at The Serai is another exceptional experience, and one can expect local delicacies as well as western favourites on the daily changing menus using fresh homegrown organic ingredients. Guests can dine in the dining tent, or for a special experience choose from any of the spectacular locations anywhere on site. The Bar is the best place to relax in complete comfort, surrounded by wonderful interiors, as you enjoy the cocktails or other refreshing concoctions.
Whilst the other SUJÁN camps of Jawai and Sher Bagh take care of the wildlife enthusiasts, the highly acclaimed SUJÁN Spa at The Serai is one of the main reasons people travel here. From rousing reflexology to cleansing scrubs and deeply relaxing massages, the organic and ayurvedic products blended with an array of healing herbs leave you feeling utterly heavenly.
Spend your days in the spa or explore the unique and breath-taking countryside on a camel safari or desert drive. The tailored excursions led by experienced guides take guests to some beautiful places off the beaten track as well as to the medieval city and fort of Jaisalmer. Evenings can be spent under the vast expanse of the desert sky punctuated by the twinkling stars, whilst sipping a G&T and listening to the ancient melodies of Manganiyar folk musicians who’ve sung their songs to the SUJÁN family for generations.
